Students from SEK International School Alborán, María del Carmen Jiménez, María Teresa Álvarez and Raquel Sánchez, have been given the Unicaja Award for Mejor Initiatives in School Education for their Airphone project.
‘We redesigned and built a support for smartphones from recycled materials to charge phones at different heights and avoiding damaging both mobile and charger. It is an easy-to-use, cheap and simple.’ The students explained their project in this way when they picked up their prize on Wednesday 7 at the Universidad de Almería.
The winning students were very satisfied with their participation in the Feria de las Ideas ‘it has been a pleasure to participate in this Feria de las Ideas where we have learnt skills such as creativity, leadership or public speaking, competing against other great teams. We will return next year.
The Unicaja Award to Best School Education Initiative includes a €300 cash prize and a mentoring process, according to Francisco Martos, the renowned Business consultant at Unicaja Banco: ‘I am very pleased that a project as imaginative as yours has reached this far. One of our lines of action is the fostering of young talent. We have taken part in this Feria de las Ideas for the last three years and young people are very important for us and we will continue along these lines.”
The Entrepreneurship teacher at SEK International School Alborán, Leticia Díaz, thanked the UAL and Unicaja for acknowledging the work of their students, who ‘worked very hard and lived an unforgettable experience. They’ve done a fantastic job, were very excited to be working on this project, and were even a bit embarrassed because their elevator pitch was attended by many university students, they never imagined it would have so much potential.’
The X Feria de las Ideas featured a stand and different activities such as chats, speed-networking, gymkhanas, workshops and prizes worth up to €25,000.
